Loving Yourself For Who You Are

One of the major underlying issues in the vast majority of health problems is having a lack of self confidence. This, in turn, stems from not truly loving yourself for who you are. Women, especially, tend to fall prey to this notion. Because women feel a higher demand placed on them to look and act a certain way while at the same time competing with men for corporate positions and employment, they often are super critical of their body image. Often, when you compliment a woman, she won’t take it seriously, thinking that surely you must not see her imperfections the way that she does.

Self confidence doesn’t come wrapped up in a neat package. Rather, it is something that must be learned and ingrained in you. You gain self confidence by loving yourself and accepting all of your “faults” as being a part of your physical makeup. Sure, there are some things that you can change about yourself such as body image by working out and eating healthier, but other things you cannot do so much to change quite as easily. Despite the fact that it sounds sort of clich?, you truly have to love yourself. Part of that means respecting yourself before you can respect others. You cannot truly love other people if you don’t love yourself first.

Stress and the demands of a job and a family can put a lot of pressure on you at times. This is why it is important to have other outlets to turn to in order to relieve stress. Many people, when they are faced with stressful situations put a lot of pressure on themselves. Often times, they will be the first ones to blame themselves for things that are often out of their control and for which they had no part of. Having a support system of close friends and family is important when learning how to love and respect yourself. We all need someone to encourage us in times when we are feeling most vulnerable.

Learning how to live a life that is good is often difficult to do because there are many temptations out there which make it so. By being a good person and doing the right things, we can gain more confidence in ourselves. It is in times when we know that we are not doing the right things to help ourselves or other people that we feel the most guilty. Whenever we make decisions, we need to remind ourselves what is at stake. You need to live a life that you can be proud of. At the end of the day, you want to be able to sleep soundly knowing that you made well-thought out decisions which had positive outcomes. All of this is part of being a better person. If someone else approaches you and asks you to do something unethical, whether it is a boss, colleague or friend, what will you decide to do? It is a matter of prioritizing what is important to you in your life as well as what you can live with at the end of the day. Learn to see people and situations for what they are worth. Don’t sell yourself short, and learn to speak up for yourself. You’ll do yourself a favor in the long run, not to mention the fact that you’ll do so much more in terms of your personal development as a human being.
